Joachim is a Senior Psychotherapist and a Singapore Association of Counselling certified Clinical Member and Clinical Supervisor. Joachim first graduated with a Bachelor of Theology from Melbourne College of Divinity in 1998, and moved on to his Master of Social Science (Counselling) from the University of South Australia in 2001.

To further enhance his clinical acumen, Joachim completed three years of training in Analytical Psychology under the C.G. Jung Developing Group of the International Association of Analytical Psychology in 2004, and trained in Interpersonal Psychotherapy in 2005. Following this, he trained in Solution Oriented and Inclusive Therapy under its creator, Master Therapist Bill O’Hanlon in 2005. Five years later, in recognition of his expertise in the therapeutic modality, Joachim was endorsed as a trainer in this methodology. Joachim has certifications in the Ericksonian approach to Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy under Dr Jeffrey Zeig of the Ericksonian Foundation, as well as a Professional Certification in Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy from the Australian Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy. Joachim is also certified as a Trainer of Mental Health First Aid, Australia, and certified as a Gambling Addiction Counsellor.

His clinical experience in assessment and treatment is garnered from 21 years of clinical practice in youth residential care in the National University of Singapore Counselling Centre. He has worked at a residential Home for the Homeless and Alcoholic Women and a Family Service Centre.

Joachim’s professional accomplishments include serving as Director of a Family Service Centre (FSC) and also heading the FSC as its Clinical Supervisor from 2005 to 2019.

Joachim has taught as an adjunct lecturer at the Master in Social Science, Counselling Programme at the University of South Australia and the School of Counselling, TCA College Master of Arts in Counselling programme.

He is dedicated to sharpening his skills and knowledge to provide up-to-date neuroscience informed effective therapeutic treatment for his clients. Notable mentions include intensive training with Cloe Madanes, Co-Creator of Strategic Family Therapy, Professional Certification in Hypnotherapy with Igor Ledowchowski, Freddie and Anthony Jacquin, Bob Burns, Ines Simpson among many others. He also completed training in the Seven Eyed Model of Supervision and was the co-trainer of the modality with the creator, Professor Peter Hawkins. In 2015, under the guidance of Dr Kenneth Kang, he completed training as a Certified Neurofeedback Therapist.

He has presented at three Asia Pacific Neurofeedback conferences in 2016, 2017 and 2021, speaking about the integration of neuroscience and psychotherapy. He specialises in treating trauma, anxiety and depression using the Multichannel Eye Movement Integration.

Testament to his expertise in addiction work, Joachim was appointed by the Minister of Family and Social Development for three terms as a Council Member of the National Council on Problem Gambling, and is currently serving as a member of the Committee of Assessors. He was appointed by the Mayors of North East Community Development Council, for a fourth term as a Council Member and served as the Chairperson for two terms. He is also appointed by the Minister of Home Affairs and sits in the Remote Gambling Sub-Committee.

In recognition of his dedication and voluntary service to the nation, he was conferred the Pingat Bakti Masyarakat/Public Service Award (PBM) by the President of Singapore, Mr Tony Tan, in 2016.
