Client Confidentiality

  • Q: Will my information be kept confidential?
A: Yes, what you discuss with your clinician is kept strictly confidential with certain limitations. You may also be asked by your clinician for your consent so that they can request or disclose information in the course of your treatment (e.g., requesting your consent to speak with other medical or mental health providers).
  • Q: What are the limits of confidentiality in mental health treatment in Singapore?
A: Confidentiality is protected with a few key exceptions. Disclosure (without your consent) may be necessary if you’re a danger to yourself or others, if there’s suspected abuse of a child or elderly person, or by court order.
  • Q: My child is under 18. Will the clinician tell me everything my child discusses with them?
A: We value every client’s right to and preference for privacy. In the case of clients of minor age, we recognize the parents/caregivers’ concerns and need for information to help their child to the best of their abilities. To address the needs of both client and parent, boundaries and expectations are usually addressed at the first visit so that everyone’s on the same page about what the clinician might share, how often they will share it, and what they will keep private.
