  • Q: When should I seek help for mental health concerns?
A: Seek help if you’re struggling with overwhelming feelings of sadness, hopelessness, irritability, anxiety, stress, or experiencing troubling changes in sleep, appetite, concentration, or energy levels that are negatively impacting your daily life.
  • Q: How do I know if I need to see a psychiatrist or a psychologist or a counsellor/therapist?
A: A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who is able to advise you on and prescribe psychiatric medication if it’s clinically indicated. They can also provide therapy although their typical focus is on medication management. Psychologists and counsellors/therapists are both trained in various therapeutic techniques and focus on providing what is commonly referred to as “talk therapy” for issues related to depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, addiction, etc.  Psychologists differ from therapists in that they received further training in clinical diagnosis and psychological testing.

If you’re still not sure who you need to see, please contact us so that we can assist you in the process. All of our clinicians are keen on working with you to get you the help you need and will refer you to the appropriate colleagues if both therapy and medication are indicated.
  • Q: What should I expect when I see a mental health professional for the first time?
A: Your clinician will conduct a thorough assessment of your current concerns and relevant background history. You’ll be able to share your goals for treatment and work collaboratively on a suitable treatment plan.
  • Q: How do I find the right clinician for me?
A: Consider factors such as their areas of specialization, professional/academic training, therapeutic approaches used, types of experience, and personality. Please visit their profiles as it’s important to feel comfortable and connected with your clinician.
