Joyce is a clinical psychologist and a final-year doctoral candidate in the Doctor of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) programme of Regent University (USA, APA-accredited). Prior to her graduate studies, her roles in MOE as a primary school educator, special needs officer, and head of department provided experience with students, families, and school leaders. After graduating from The University of Manchester (UK) with a B.Sc. (Honours) in Psychology, she had initially aspired to be an educational psychologist. However, working with multiple stakeholders in education inspired her to broaden her focus and seek training to holistically address the complex systems that influence an individual’s mental health across their lifespan.
Joyce has been trained in multiple clinical settings under APA-licensed psychologists, including a university counselling center, a university-based psychological services center, a community mental health center, and a private practice. Through these settings, she gained experience using brief and long-term therapy with culturally diverse children, adolescents, and adult clients to address depression, adjustment, anxiety, ADHD, grief and loss, health anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorders, and addiction. In addition, her skills in psychological assessment and multicultural competencies are used to complement her therapeutic approaches. She believes in serving clients by holistically addressing their worldviews and multicultural needs while working with them to leverage inner resources to promote healing and growth.
In addition to her Masters in Clinical Psychology, Joyce obtained her qualifications as an EMDR therapist and HOPE-focused couples therapist. She utilizes and integrates evidence-based approaches including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Therapy to address her client’s goals. Having lived and worked in different countries and cultural settings, Joyce deeply appreciates the importance of working closely and collaboratively with individuals and couples navigating major life transitions, emotional health, and relational skills.
Alongside her clinical work, Joyce provides supervision and training to students in a M.A. counselling programme, and is involved in adjunct lecturing, mental health training and consultation with various organizations.
