Dr Guo Song is a Senior Consultant Psychiatrist with extensive clinical, academic and leadership experience in adult psychiatry and addiction medicine. He has practised psychiatry for over four decades across Beijing, China and Singapore, and has experience working within different cultural and healthcare settings. He provides consultations in both English and Mandarin, with sensitivity to cultural factors that may influence symptom expression, help-seeking behaviour and family dynamics.
His clinical work encompasses the assessment and management of a wide range of adult psychiatric conditions, including mood disorders such as depression and anxiety, stress-related conditions, sleep disturbances and other general psychiatric presentations. He adopts a structured and comprehensive approach to assessment, with attention to the interaction between biological, psychological and social factors in the development and course of illness.
A significant component of his practice involves the treatment of substance use disorders, including alcohol, sedative-hypnotics, opioids, stimulants and other substances, as well as behavioural addictions such as gambling and gaming. He has experience in managing complex or recurrent cases, including individuals with longstanding dependence, repeated relapse or co-occurring psychiatric conditions. His approach emphasises integrated care, addressing both addictive behaviours and associated mental health conditions within a coherent treatment framework.
Dr Guo places particular emphasis on relapse prevention and long-term recovery planning. This includes the identification of individual vulnerability factors and triggers, the development of coping strategies, and the establishment of sustainable behavioural and lifestyle changes over time. Where clinically appropriate, he may provide community-based or outpatient detoxification to support recovery while maintaining continuity within the patient’s usual living environment.
In pharmacological management, Dr Guo provides medication optimisation and deprescribing consultations. His doctoral training in psychopharmacology informs a careful and evidence-based approach to the use of psychiatric medications, including antidepressants, benzodiazepines, antipsychotics and related agents. He has particular experience in the individualised tapering of medications, with structured planning and close monitoring of withdrawal symptoms, as well as differentiation between withdrawal phenomena and relapse.
In selected cases, acupuncture may be incorporated as an adjunctive intervention within an overall evidence-based treatment framework, with the aim of supporting symptom management and general regulation.
Dr Guo’s clinical practice is guided by principles of collaborative decision-making, clinical prudence and cultural sensitivity. Treatment plans are developed in partnership with patients, taking into account their clinical presentation, personal values, family context and long-term goals, with the aim of achieving a stable and sustainable recovery.
