Trauma-informed care for children, adolescents, adults and families — integrating medical, psychological, and relational approaches.

Dr Paulette Po is a senior physician with more than 20 years of experience in public mental healthcare, with a focus on child, adolescent, and family mental wellness. She holds a Master of Medicine (Psychiatry) from the National University of Singapore and has worked across major public healthcare institutions in Singapore, including the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), National University Hospital (NUH), and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH).

Her clinical experience spans both acute and chronic management of mental health conditions across inpatient and outpatient settings, including emergency psychiatry, community psychiatry, and consultation-liaison services.

At KKH, Dr Po was part of the Child and Adolescent Mental Wellness Service, providing consultation-liaison care for patients with complex medical and psychological presentations such as eating disorders, tic disorders, neurodevelopmental conditions, mood and anxiety disorders, somatic symptom presentations, school refusal, and emotional and behavioural difficulties.

She adopts a trauma-informed, attachment-based, and family-centred approach, integrating medical management with psychological and relational care. She is trained in Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), Circle of Security Parenting, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy.

Her work is informed by both professional experience and lived experience as a mother of three, supporting her attunement to children and women across life stages, including perinatal, postnatal, and menopausal transitions.

In addition to clinical work, Dr Po has contributed to service development and education. She was Project Lead for KIDSAFE, developed a psychiatry fellowship programme in Child & Adolescent Mental Wellness and Women’s Mental Health, and initiated the use of mental health libraries and CALM KITs to support children with sensory needs.
