Joanna is a counsellor/psychotherapist with over 10 years of experience in the addiction and mental health field, including leading a non-profit specialising in behavioural addiction recovery. She brings together her background in addiction treatment, mental health recovery and clinical operations to support individuals navigating emotional, relational, and life challenges.
In her counselling practice, Joanna adopts a warm and integrative approach, drawing from Choice Theory & Reality Therapy (CTRT), Motivational Interviewing, Schema Therapy, and counselling microskills. Her work is grounded in the belief that meaningful change happens when people feel understood and gain greater clarity in making choices that move them towards the life they want.
Joanna holds a Master of Arts in Counselling from TCA College, Singapore, and is trained in Choice Theory & Reality Therapy (Level 4), Motivational Interviewing, and counselling microskills. She is a Provisional Clinical Member of the Singapore Association for Counselling and a Clinical Member of the Association for Christian Counselling (Singapore).

Joanna’s experience in the addiction and mental health field began over a decade ago, shaped by a belief that recovery is not just about stopping behaviours, but about becoming more whole. She previously led a non-profit organisation focused on behavioural addiction recovery, where she worked with individuals and families affected by addiction.
Her professional background includes experience in the Singapore government service, as well as clinical operations and programme development in addiction treatment and mental health settings. These experiences have given her a strong appreciation for both compassionate care and sound clinical structure. The core of her work has always been about creating conditions where teams can do their best work, and where clients feel safe, respected, and supported throughout their journey.
In counselling, Joanna adopts a warm, thoughtful, and integrative approach. She draws from Choice Theory & Reality Therapy (CTRT), Motivational Interviewing, Schema Therapy, and counselling microskills. She works with people navigating concerns such as addiction and recovery-related issues, emotional distress, relational difficulties, coping challenges, and life transitions.
Joanna’s interest in people-helping work began in her youth. She has been involved in various community-based initiatives, including service-learning, youth mentoring, overseas community projects, educational support for children from lower-income families, and creative outreach to disadvantaged groups. These experiences continue to shape the way she sees people – not as problems to be fixed, but as persons to be understood, supported with care, and empowered towards growth.
As a mother of two, Joanna also finds meaning in supporting parents as they navigate life transitions, identity shifts, and parenting challenges. She understands that parenting can be both deeply meaningful and deeply demanding, and values creating a space where parents can feel supported as persons, not only in their caregiving roles. Joanna holds a Master of Arts in Counselling from TCA College, Singapore. She is trained in Choice Theory & Reality Therapy (Level 4), Motivational Interviewing, and counselling microskills, and serves as an adjunct facilitator in a Master’s-level microskills course.
She is a Provisional Clinical Member of the Singapore Association for Counselling and a Clinical Member of the Association for Christian Counselling (Singapore).
