Dr Sandor Heng is a skilled and experienced dual diagnosis clinician. He has a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and has worked in both private and public health sectors in Australia and Singapore. Though he describes himself as a behaviourist by heart and was schooled in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, he generally adopts an eclectic approach in treating addictions and mental health. By focusing on a strengths-based approach, he blends evidence-based practice with practice-based evidence to achieve clinical outcomes. He has a special interest in co-occurring disorders (addictive disorders and mental health disorders), and his philosophy of therapy is to be the best version of oneself, which he practices in his own life.
Prior to joining Promises, Dr Heng was the sole psychologist at the National Addictions Management Service (NAMS) in the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) for 7 years and was the team lead for the NAMS Inpatient Program. Dr Heng currently sits on the Board of the Singapore Anti-Narcotics Association (SANA) and is the Chair of the Rehab & Reintegration Subcommittee. He is also an Associate Faculty in the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), where he teaches the Addiction Module in the Masters of Counselling Program.
